Sustainable Design
Sustainability will always be at the forefront of our work. In this piece we shed light on the ways we practice sustainability through our partnership with the MillerKnoll brands.
Even as we are constantly growing and changing there are a few values that will always hold a place of importance in our mission. One of those values that we are continuing to serve is our commitment towards a more sustainable future. Sustainability has always been and always will be at the forefront of our work. In this piece we shed light on the ways we practice sustainability through our partnerships and will highlight Herman Miller and their stewardship of the environment.
Since the beginning Herman Miller was founded on principles of sustainability. In 1953, Herman Miller’s founder, D.J De Pree said, “We will be a good corporate neighbor by being a good steward of the environment.” Since then, Herman Miller has implemented sustainability in countless ways. They highlight their main goals as reducing the company’s carbon footprint by 50% and aim to reduce the carbon footprint of their suppliers. Designing out waste by stopping the use of single-use plastics and finally, sourcing better materials that are made of recycled content and are sustainably produced.
Here's an overview of some of Herman Miller’s sustainability achievements:
In 2010 Herman Miller became the first company in the furniture industry and one of the first companies in the world to fuel 100% of their facilities around the world with renewable energy. In 2019 Herman Miller set a goal of reducing single use plastics in packaging globally by 30%. They carried out this goal by switching to paper-based and more recyclable materials. In 2020 Herman Miller became the first furniture company to register for WELL Portfolio, which enables organizations to enhance their spaces and improve human wellbeing across a global footprint. Herman Miller is also a proud founding member of the US Green Building Council.
The CEO of MillerKnoll, Andi Owen, said it best, “We believe that business should be a force for good and our teams work hard every day to drive results for our shareholders, our communities, and our planet. We have focused on designing sustainability for decades.”
